Beyond heaven and paradise exists the Mustang, they say. People call it the Last Forbidden Kingdom, and it’s no easy to describe the beauty of Mustang in words. The region is an isolated and undisturbed one, and highly preferred destination for tourism activities. Views of the surrounding are absolutely mesmerizing as nature has left no drawbacks on its creation. Components of the region has been so well – preserved that the department of immigration has applied strict procedures for incoming visitors so as to avoid negative foreign influence. However, a lot of customs of the country have been inspired by the Tibetan influence. But, they have been practiced over years of time that gradually got combined with that of the country.
The Upper Mustang Trek is an exceptional honor. You shall be spellbound to spend your days in the beautiful Trans – Himalaya region of the country. Breathtaking views shall leave you captivated, and prehistoric artificial structures that are hard to believe of their originality shall leave you questioning about their existence. Of all visitors, to most of them points of interests include panoramic insights of the nearby mountain peaks, visit to some of the ancient Buddhist monasteries that are more than a thousand years old, savoring the harmony of isolation and most probably, getting involved within the neighborly – friendly community where cultures are from the Tibetan influence. It’s guaranteed that you are most likely to admire every aspect that you see in the region.
Barren lands, rocky mountains and steep climbs are the foremost attractions of the trek. Trekking in Upper Mustang has never been easy, yet unforgettable by activists and professionals of any kind. Rough rocky trails can get strenuous at times but completely achievable. Routes of such kind start to appear only after several days of the trek. During the initial stages, we fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then further to Jomsom from where the trekking phase starts. Lo – Manthang, eye – striking monasteries such as the Thungchen Gompa, Amchi Museum and other forms of natural beauty.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,400m/4,593ft]
Arrive in Tribhuvan International Airport [Kathmandu] and transfer to your hotel to stay overnight.
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing
Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu Valley including some of the major places of the city such as Pashupatinath temple, Durbar Squares, Swayambhunath and Boudha Gumba that have been declared as World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. Back to the hotel in the evening to stay overnight.
Day 03: Kathmandu – Pokhara [827m/2,713ft]
Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara that takes 30 minutes. Wander around the beautiful place for a while and stay overnight in a hotel.
Day 04: Pokhara – Jomsom [2,743m/8999ft] – Kagbeni [2,844m/9331ft]
Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom that takes about 40 minutes and then further trek Kagbeni that takes about 3 – 4 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 05: Kagbeni – Chele [3,050m/10,006ft]
Trek from Kagbeni to Chele that takes about 6 – 7 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 06: Chele – Syangmochen [3,800m/12,467ft]
Trek from Chele to Syangmochen that takes about 7 – 8 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 07: Syangmochen – Tsarang [3,560m/11,680ft]
Trek from Syangmochen to Tsarang that takes about 7 – 8 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 08: Tsarang – Lo – Manthang [3,800m/12,467ft]
Trek from Tsarang to Lo – Manthang that takes about 4 – 5 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 09: Acclimatization at Lo – Manthang
Acclimatization is an important part of trekking. We acclimatize at Lo - Manthang on this day and explore around the beautiful site.
Day 10: Lo – Manthang – Dhakmar – [3,820m/12,533ft]
Trek from Lo – Manthang to Dhakmar that takes about 6 hours. Stay overnight in a camp.
Day 11: Dhakmar – Ghiling [3,570m/11,712ft]
Trek from Dhakmar to Ghiling that takes about 6 – 7 hours. Stay overnight in a camp.
Day 12: Ghiling – Samar [3,550m/11,647ft]
Trek from Ghiling to Samar that takes about 6 – 7 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 13: Samar – Kagbeni
Trek from Samar to Kagbeni that takes about 6 – 7 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 14: Kagbeni – Jomsom
Trek back from Kagbeni to Jomsom that takes about 3 – 4 hours. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 15: Jomsom – Pokhara
Fly back from Jomsom to Pokhara. Stay overnight in a hotel.
Day 16: Pokhara – Kathmandu
Drive or fly back from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Stay overnight in a teahouse.
Day 17: Final Departure
